2015 Women’s Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll – No. 2 (Sept. 29)
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) remains in the top spot in the second regular-season edition of the NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The third regular-season edition will be released on Tuesday, Oct. 6. The first MRPI poll will be released tomorrow (Sept. 30).
Top 25 Highlights (historical information dates back to 1999):
-
This is the fourth-straight poll that Lindsey Wilson earns the No. 1 ranking. The Blue Raiders received 17-of-19 possible first-place votes for a total of 528 points. Mobile (Ala.) is No. 2 for a second-straight week. The Rams received the last two first-place votes a total of 513 points.
-
No. 3 Northwestern Ohio has been ranked in the Top 10 in ten-straight polls, dating back to Oct. 7 of last year.
-
Lindsey Wilson looks to become the first team to go the entire season ranked No. 1.
-
Four teams join the top 25 – No. 19 Campbellsville (Ky.), No. 22 Ottawa (Kan.), No. 24 Middle Georgia State and No. 25 Houston-Victoria (Texas).
-
This is the first top 25 selection for Campbellsville, Ottawa, Middle Georgia State and Houston-Victoria.
-
There was not much movement within the top 25. Baker (Kan.) had the biggest jump moving up two spots from No. 18 to No. 16. No. 18 Concordia (Neb.) and No. 23 The Master’s (Calif.) fell a poll-high two spots.
-
Lindsey Wilson holds the record with 50 No. 1 rankings. Former NAIA member Azusa Pacific (Calif.) is second with 33. The Blue-Raiders also extend the longest active streak of consecutive appearances in the top 25 with 162-consecutive mentions, including 133-straight in the top 10.
-
Twelve of the 19 conferences are represented in the top 25. The Golden State Athletic Conference (No. 9 Westmont (Calif.), No. 12 Vanguard (Calif.), No. 14 Biola (Calif.) and The Master’s) and the Southern States Athletic Conference (Mobile (Ala.) No. 6 Martin Methodist (Tenn.), No. 7 William Carey (Miss.) and Middle Georgia State), lead all leagues with four teams represented each.
Poll Methodology:
-
The poll was voted upon by a panel of 19 head coaches representing each of the conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups.
-
The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first place vote, 29 for second place and so on through the list.
-
The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is a low rating) is removed and the team’s ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the team appears on.
-
Teams who receive only one point in the ballot will not be listed in the “Receiving Votes” category.
-
The Modified Ratings Percentage Index (MRPI) is a separate ranking conducted on Sept. 29, Oct. 20 and Nov. 16. The MRPI—first adopted in 2010—will select the at-large national championship qualifying teams and seed the 32-team national championship opening round field.
