NU's Kylie Garrison (18) goes after the ball with CU's Karlie Hurley Concordia Defeats Shorthanded Eagles 9/3/2015 7:59:22 PM PORTLAND, Ore. – Concordia University’s three freshman did all the scoring as the Cavaliers defeated a shorthanded Northwest University, 4-1, in a non-conference play this afternoon. All of Concordia’s goals came after an NU player was issued a red card in the 19th minute leaving the Eagle shorthanded for the remainder of the game. Freshman Gabrielle Ewing put the put the Cavaliers into the lead at the 24:27 mark as she put in a rebound from 8 yards out. Another freshman, Karlie Hurley, scored the first of her two goals in the 42’ when she scored unassisted past the NU goalkeeper from the right side into the far post for the 2-0 lead which would carry over into halftime. NU’s Kortney Hudak missed a near goal in the 27th minute as her shot from 15 yards out in the middle was knocked away and saved by the CU goalkeeper. Two more Concordia goals would come in the second half including Hurley’s second goal in the 82nd minute to put the Cavs ahead 4-0. Northwest U’s Tiffany Taylor would finally put the Eagles on the scoreboard for the third time this season (her second goal of the year) as she would curl in a free kick from the left side at 82:37 to close out the scoring for the game. Lauren Patefield would take the loss in goal for Northwest U (0-3-0) making two saves. Olivia Brock earns the win for Concordia (1-0) making two saves in 53 minutes of play. Gabrielle Andrade and Jaclyn Metz each had two shots for NU while Bobbi Eckler led Concordia with four shots. CU outshot Northwest U 16-8, with nine shots on goal. Northwest U now travels to Southern California for a challenging three game road trip with games scheduled with The Master’s College, Hope International and Antelope Valley over the holiday weekend.
