By Chad Waller, Director of Communications and Sports Information

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In the first edition of the 2015 NAIA Men's Soccer Modified Ratings Percentage Index (MRPI), Rio Grande (Ohio) boasts the No. 1 position, announced by the national office on Wednesday. The top MRPI ranking is the sixth all-time for the RedStorm, which is the most for any program since the inception of MRPI in 2010. The second MRPI will be announced on Oct. 21.

MRPI Highlights (historical information dates back to 2010):

• With a perfect 10-0-0 record, Rio Grande also landed the latest No. 1 ranking in the NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, announced Tuesday.
• The RedStorm now hold the most top mentions in the MRPI (six) out of any NAIA program.
• Following Rio Grande in the MRPI top five is No. 2 Vanguard (Calif.), No. 3 Davenport (Mich.), No. 4 Northwestern Ohio and No. 5 Corban (Ore.).
• Vanguard records its highest MRPI spot in school history and is included in this ranking for the first time since Oct. 26, 2011 (No. 26).
• No. 17 Cumberland (Tenn.) is the highest mentioned team in the MRPI that was not ranked in the most recent Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
• No. 59 Georgia Gwinnett is the lowest rated team in the MRPI that holds a spot in the Coaches’ Top 25 (No. 21).
• Since 2010, the following teams have held the No. 1 position in a MRPI poll: Rio Grande (6), Hastings (Neb.) (3), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (2), former member Simon Fraser (B.C.) (2), Auburn Montgomery (1), Davenport (1), Grand View (1) and Mobile (Ala.) (1).
• Rio Grande is one-of-two teams to earn a position in each of the 17 MRPI rankings since it was introduced in 2010. The other squad is Lindsey Wilson. Outside the MRPI Top 30 this week, Hastings and Kansas Wesleyan have their streak snapped at 16-straight mentions.

MRPI Methodology:
• The Men’s Soccer Modified Ratings Percentage Index (MRPI)—first adopted in 2010—will select the at-large qualifying teams and seed the 32-team national championship opening round field. For a MRPI calendar, click here
• The final MRPI, used to select the at-large teams, will occur on Monday, Nov. 16. This takes place one day later than the past few years.
• The MRPI consists of the team’s modified winning percentage, their opponents’ winning percentage and the cumulative ratings points from the NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Each of the three values has a weighted percentage calculated in the MRPI. The MRPI modifies the value of home/away/neutral results and adds more value for games against opponents ranked in their respective national poll.
