NU and Hope International Battle to 0-0 Tie 9/7/2015 3:38:06 PM FULLERTON, Calif. – Northwest University and Hope International battled to a 0-0 overtime tie in a non-league game this afternoon at Fullerton College. The two teams battled in 97 degree heat for 110 minutes without a score. The defenses held strong with 18 total shots begin taken, 11 by HIU (2-0-1) and 7 by Northwest U (0-4-1). Lauren Patefield, NU goalkeeper earned the shutout making six saves in goal for the Eagles while HIU’s keeper, Kayla Jensen, made one save for the Royals. Hope International came into today’s game having scored nine goals in their first two games. In the early going, it looked as though Northwest U would break into the scoring column as they had back-to-back corner kicks in the 13th minute, but would not be able to score. Tiffany Taylor’s shot in the 26th minute sailed high and Jaclyn Metz’s shot was saved in the 33rd minute. HIU’s two shots in the half would miss the mark as well. Hope International would press harder in the second half with seven shots, but each time turned away by the Eagle defense. Patefield made five saves in the half to keep the Royals scoreless. NU managed three shots in the half. In the first overtime period, Samantha Porter’s shots in the 95th minute would go wide right and Gabriela Andrade’s shot would be blocked by a HIU player. HIU’s lone shot in the period would head wide right. The second overtime would see Hope International getting the only shot in 10 minutes as Cambria Guitron’s shot would be stopped by the NU defense. Northwest U will now head north to the upper desert in Southern California and their final game of their trip in Lancaster, when they play the University of Antelope Valley on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
