Antelope Valley Golden Goal Bests Northwest U
LANCASTER, Calif. – The University of Antelope Valley scored the golden goal in the second overtime for a 1-0 victory over Northwest University in 100 degree heat this afternoon. It was the second straight day Northwest played a double overtime game after tying Hope International 0-0 on Monday in Fullerton.
Gisel Cruz-Martinez scored the golden goal for the Pioneers (1-2) at the 103:55 mark with Ingrid Osegeda earning the assist on the goal.
UAV outshot Northwest U (0-5-1) 31-19 forcing Eagle goalkeeper, Lauren Patefield, to make 13 saves. Danelle Hendershot earned the shutout making 8 saves for the game as Northwest U pressed hard for a score.
“Our ladies came out hard and spent a good part of the game attacking,” said NU head coach, Val Seid. “However, we still have a lot of work to do as we are mentally not there yet. We will find our way soon and we’re trying to keep our heads up.”
Northwest U will host their first home game of the season on Sunday, Sept. 13, when they host Trinity Lutheran in another non-league contest at 2 p.m. on the NU Athletic Field.
