EOU Indoor Track & Field Shines in Season Opener

NAMPA, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon University indoor track & field team wrapped up its season opener at the Ed Jacoby Invitational on Saturday afternoon, and the Mountaineers brought home three automatic qualifiers for the NAIA Indoor Championships and a pair of record-breaking performances.
 
DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS
Marta Stangel tallied a personal-best 13.44m (44-1.25) in the weight throw, as she just missed EOU’s top-10 list by two inches.
 
Meanwhile, Miriah Haro and Paige Dodd posted strong performances in the pentathlon, as they recorded the eighth- and ninth-best finishes, respectively, in EOU history. Haro snagged 11th place overall with a time of 2:51.78, while Dodd (2.55.97) took 12th.
 
In the men’s pole vault, Kaden Walker tallied 4.25m (13-11.25) to notch a fourth-place finish and tally the 10th-best mark at EOU.
 
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS
Newcomer Jebari Cumberbatch shined on day two of the event, as he broke two school records for EOU. In the 60m dash, Cumberbatch earned second with a time of 6.93, and he later finished third in the 200m with a mark of 22.26.
 
Two other Mountaineers recorded strong races in the 200m, as Devin Lewis-Allen (22.79) and Codi Blodgett (22.98) mustered the third- and sixth-best times, respectively, in school history.
 
In the women’s 200m, EOU saw a pair of top-10 finishes by both Megan Sullivan (25.87) and Andrea Lemus (26.03), as they took sixth and eighth, respectively. Sullivan also notched a fourth-place finish and punched her ticket to nationals in the 400m with a time of 58.14.
 
Talitha Fagen qualified for the NAIA Indoor Championships in the women’s pole vault after recording a mark of 3.60m (11-9.75).
 
In the triple jump, Hakeem Belle qualified for nationals after he took third with a tally of 14.20m (46-7.25).

In the 60m, Blodgett took 10th overall with a time of 7.16 for the third-best showing in program history, while Lewis-Allen carded a time of 50.96 in the 400m dash for the fifth-best performance at EOU.
 
On the women’s side, Amie Zitterkob (8.10) and Morgan Reddington (8.14) posted the fifth- and seventh-best performances, respectively, in program history in the 60m dash. 
 
In the long jump, Amanda Fowler earned 17th with a leap of 4.97m (16-3.75).
 
The performances by Lemus, Sullivan, and Fowler were all top-10 efforts in program history.
 
Jennifer Peters registered the second-best mark by a Mountaineer in the triple jump, as she booked a mark of 10.52m (34-6.25).
 
Caitlyn Rowe paced the Mountaineers in the 800m run, as she uncorked an eighth-place finish with a time of 2:27.22, while Rachel Roelle (10:51.07) finished seventh in the 3000m for EOU.
 
In the men’s 3000m run, Nic Maszk took third out of 12 runners with a time of 8:54.72.
 
Tanner Yarbrough took second (15.61m) in the weight throw and also fifth (13.61m) in the shot put for EOU.
