LA GRANDE, Ore. –The No. 10 ranked Northwest Christian men’s basketball team has been named the “Adidas Team of the Week” for January 18-24, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced.
 
The Beacon’s earned two tough road wins against Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho. It was the first sweep for NCU on the EOU/CI trip in program history.
 
Against EOU, Javonte Byrd scored 4-points in the final two seconds to give the Beacons the improbable win 77-76. Byrd, who nailed a three-pointer to tie the game at 76, also sank the winning free-throw with .08 remaining after a turnover and a subsequent foul committed by the Mountaineers. Five Beacons scored in double digits lead by Byrd with 20-points, Omar Richards 13-points, Austin Kuemper 12-points, Kenny Blackwell 11-points and Jay Mayernik 10- points.
 
The Beacons avoided any sort of letdown after the emotional win on Friday against the Yotes. NCU connected on 11 three-pointers on the night and were led by Richards with 23-points and Byrd with 22-points in the 72-62 victory.
 
 
Northwest Christian (18-4, 11-1 CCC) will host Corban University on Tuesday January 26 and travel to Walla Walla University to face the Wolves on Jan. 30.
