Moore Pours in 36 Points to Lead Oregon Tech over Evergreen State

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Lavar Moore notched a career-high 36 points and Oregon Tech held off Evergreen State College down the stretch to earn an 88-80 victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action tonight at Danny Miles Court.

Oregon Tech moved to 15-5 on the year and 6-5 in CCC action.  Evergreen State fell to 8-12 on the season and 5-7 in the conference standings.

Oregon Tech and Evergreen State battled through 10 ties in the opening half.
 
The Geoducks largest lead was five points, 24-19, on a Danny Powell triple at the midway point of the first half.  Oregon Tech’s largest cushion was four points, 36-32, with 4:13 remaining on a 3-pointer by Austen Flint. 
 
The Geoducks would outscore the Owls 10-3 from that point, as Tech trailed 42-39 at the intermission. 
 
A pair of Lavar Moore freebies and a Joel Yellow Owl jumper two minutes into the second half saw the Owl reclaim a lead, 44-42, maintaining an advantage over the next 10 minutes.
 
A pair of Landon Rushton freebies gave Evergreen a lead and when Alix Hernandez connected from long distance the Geoducks led 70-67 with 5:32 remaining to play.
 
A Derek Evans layup put Tech up 71-70, but Danny Powell tied it up 71-all on a free throw, marking the games 16th and final tie of the night.
 
Evans notched another basket that put the Owls up for good, 73-71, with 4:15 on the clock, holding off every Evergreen State push down the stretch to earn the 88-80 victory.

Lavar Moore handed out six assists to go with his 36 points tonight, putting him at 1,021 points in his career.  Joel Yellow Owl netted 14 points with Derek Evans and Austen Flint chipping in 12 points each in the win.  Evans grabbed a game-high six rebounds. 

Danny Powell led the Geoducks with a team-high 29 points followed by Alix Hernandez with 20 in the loss.  Powell, Hernandez and Brock Otis grabbed five rebounds each.

The Owls connected on 30-of-57 (52.6%) from the field, including 8-for-20 from the 3-point line. The Geoducks held a 34-33 edge on the boards.

Evergreen State finished 28-of-61 (45.9%) from the field and 7-for-20 from the 3-point line.
