Late Run Pushes Oregon Tech by Northwest, 68-51

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech used an 11-0 run over a five minute span of the second half to take control, downing Northwest University 68-51 in Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action this afternoon at Danny Miles Court.

Oregon Tech upped their CCC mark to 7-5 and 16-5 overall with the win.  NU fell to 4-9 in the conference standings and 8-15 on the season.

Back-to-back baskets by Austen Flint and Andrew Weber gave Oregon Tech the early lead, only to see NU move up 7-6 after a Dak Shagren score.

The Eagles would score the next six to move up 13-6, taking their largest lead of the first half.

Oregon Tech tied it up on a Branden Halter triple with 2:48 remaining in the opening period and took a two point advantage, 28-26, after Connor Scott connected from long range and followed it with a free throw.

The Eagles scored the final five points of the half, taking a 31-28 lead into the break.

NU led by five to start the second half, before the Owls mounted a comeback to take a 44-42 lead with 12:38 on the clock.

Tech would take control of the contest with an 11-0 run started by a Flint triple and capped on a Halter dunk off a nice lob pass from Derek Evans, as the Owls held a 55-42 advantage.

Tech would lead by as many as 19 points after outscoring NU 13-9 over the final six minutes of play.

Joel Yellow Owl paced Oregon Tech with a game-high 22 points, followed by Brandon Halter with 16 points, including a 4-of-6 effort from long range and a game-high eight rebounds.  Lavar Moore added 12 points and five assists in the win. 

Dak Shagren led NU with 14 points with Zach Smith netting 10 points to go with a team-high six rebounds.  Michael Dupree added nine points followed by Paul Loranger with eight.
