The Northwest U Eagles with the Everett Eagles
Eagles Helping Eagles
EVERETT, Wash. - A phone call was al it took to get the Northwest University Eagles men's basketball team to travel north of their campus to Everett, Washington, to help out another group of Eagles. Head coach, John Van Dyke and his staff, along with the men's team went to Everett to team up with the Everett Eagles for a little five-on-five basketball and some bonding on January 6.
The Everett Eagles are a Special Olympics team that is preparing for a single tournament in February which would qualify them for the Special Olympics State Tournament to be held in Wenatchee, Wash. The team qualified for state last season and hope to repeat this year and the NU team was there on Wednesday might to help them prepare for play. The teams got into a spirited scrimmage for 80 minutes as the collegiate Eagles shared some thoughts, fundamentals and techniques with the Everett team.
"Just as one would expect." said Coach van Dyke, "we received much more back than we gave. They were an enthusiastic and fun group to spend time with and our players really enjoyed themselves. It was also a positive bonding experience for our guys as well."
The Northwest U Eagles resume league play on Friday, January 8, at home when they host Northwest Christian from Eugene, Oregon, in the second game of a doubleheader. On Saturday, the team plays Corban University in more Cascade Conference play at home. Game times for both nights is 7:30 p.m.
