Shooting Struggles Plague Lions as they Fall to College of Idaho
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University men’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start against College of Idaho, losing 94-59 on Jim Skagen Court on Friday night.
Losing their first home game in over a month, the Lions drop to 4-11 overall and 1-6 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference while the Yotes improve on their season, moving to 10-6, 5-2 CCC.
How it Happened: Shooting troubles plagued the Lions from the start, failing to score on their first 14 shots of the game. In the shooting slump, the Yotes were able to jump out to a commanding 18-1 lead before a three-pointer by Jason Wyncoop finally got MU on the board.
The Yotes caused 17 turnovers for the Lions while only turning the ball over eight times. C of I totaled 18 points off turnovers to help keep the game in their control. MU fought back to bring the game within 12 points but continued to find the net, ending the first half with a score of 50-29 in favor of the Yotes.
C of I shot 54 percent from the field, including 48 percent from behind the arc, hitting 13 3-points on the night. The Yotes took their largest lead of the night, 43 points, with just over six minutes to go in the game, before long shot by Blake Updike made it 94-59 on the night.
By the Numbers: Three C of I players landed in double figures in points, led by Joey Nebeker with a game high 23 points. Aitor Zubizarreta followed with 14 points while Marck Coffin finished with 12 points.
For the Lions, Updike led the night, totaling 14 points while Wyncoop ended with 12 points. Both players hit four 3-pointers in the game.
