EOU Women’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Double-Overtime Heartbreaker to Rocky Mountain

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The EOU women’s soccer team certainly had its chances, but a late goal by Rocky Mountain’s Mhari Smith in the 106th minute ultimately doomed the Mountaineers in double overtime, 1-0.
 
As a team, EOU (7-4-2, 4-2-1 CCC) outshot the Battlin’ Bears, 29-19. The Blue and Gold also owned an 11-7 edge in shots on goal and a 6-3 advantage in corners.
 
Junior midfielder Makensie Forsyth put her best foot forward, carding a career-high eight shots, including four on frame. Meanwhile, junior forward Anna Roslander, sophomore striker Natalie Mitchell, and senior defender Annie Konrad added three shots apiece.
 
In goal, senior keeper Jessica Parker snagged a season-high six saves in the losing effort.
 
The Mountaineers launched six shots in an eight-minute stretch early in the opening half but couldn’t find the back of the net. Junior midfielder Araceli Jimenez put one on frame with less than four minutes left in the stanza, but Rocky Mountain’s Lia Unterholzner came up with the save.
 
After outshooting the Battlin’ Bears (6-6, 3-3 CCC), 16-7, in the second frame, Rocky Mountain bounced back with a 5-2 edge in the extra periods. In the 106th tick, Evelina Aberg found Smith on the right side for the golden goal to drop the Mountaineers.
