PORTLAND, Ore. – On a wet and windy night, the Multnomah University men's soccer team fought against a tough 18
th-ranked Corban squad who eventually overcame the Lions to win 8-1 on Saturday at Delta Park.
Multnomah falls to 2-12 on the year while going 0-10 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference while the Warriors look to stay in the top three in the standings, improving to 12-2 overall, 7-2 CCC.
How it Happened: MU had the first strike in the match, driving the ball into the box to force a penalty kick in the just over 15 minutes into play. Freshman
Noe Favila lined up to take the kick, sliding the ball to the bottom right of the next as Corban's keeper dove left.
Corban didn't trail for long as Rolando Velazquez sent a free kick into the box, finding the head of Jacob Young five in the 21
st minute.
The Warriors added two more goals in the first half, one coming from Velazquez after a cross from Westley Coleman in the 36
th followed by a goal from Timur Zhividze off of a corner kick from Quamie Dinnall in the 42
nd minute.
Corban tallied 20 shots in the first half to MU's three as they teams headed into the break with a score of 3-1.
As the rain died down in the second half, the Warriors made their shots count, recording five second half goals off of 12 shots. Zhividze started the second half, scoring his second goal of the game five minutes in followed by goals from Nic Farr, Christian Silva, IIiya Zhividez and Langdon Roscoe.
By the Numbers: The Warriors finished with 32 total shots, 19 landing on target while the Lions totaled seven shots.
Favila led the offense for the Lions with three shots while
Edgar De Los Santos and
Marcus Krause each had one shot on goal.
Manny Guillermo finished with 11 saves on the night for MU, earning his fourth game with double digit saves.
Corban's Zhividze and Velazquez finished with 10 and eight shots respectively while goalie Jordan Farr earned the shutout with two saves.
