Josiah Pacheco (17) heads home Evergreen's second goal.
Evergreen Remains Unbeaten and Tied Atop CCC Table
TUMWATER – Great Falls scored goals early and late, but The Evergreen State College peppered the Argos' net in between in racing away to a 4-2 victory Sunday in Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer action at Tumwater High School Stadium.
The Geoducks (7-0-3 overall, 6-0-3) stayed in a first-place tie with Rocky Mountain atop the CCC standings, remained the only unbeaten team in the conference, and also became the first team in Evergreen athletic history to start a season without a loss in its first 10 games.
That laundry list of accomplishments seemed in jeopardy from the start as the visiting Argos put immediate pressure on the Geoducks, getting the first shot just 34 seconds into the match before scoring the first goal just 1:16 from the opening whistle.
Christoffer Bisbo got the ball on the left wing and dribbled into space before blasting a shot from the top of the box past Evergreen keeper Thomas Clark and into the far side net.
Great Falls (6-6-0, 5-4-0) continued to put the pressure on the Geoducks, taking the first six shots of the match before the Geoducks got their first shot from Issa Hassan at about the midway point of the first period.
Evergreen's second shot of the half knotted the score at 1-1. Ryan Porch's corner kick to the far post found Jordan Zimmerman, and the sophomore central defender powerfully headed home for his fourth goal of the season. That goal came at 32:54, and the two teams went into the halftime break tied at 1-1.
The Geoducks broke the game open with three goals inside the first 18 minutes of the second period. Josiah Pacheco made it 2-1 at 49:35 with his first goal of the season, heading home from Jake Zimmerman's well-placed corner kick.
Jake Zimmerman got his second goal of the season and the team's third of the match with a nice solo effort at 55:35. He dribbled across the top of the box from right to left to find space, then hit a left-footed shot back over the head of Great Falls keeper Henrik Sohn and into the right side of the goal.
Evergreen added its fourth goal at 62:52 on Kevin Elliott-McCrea's second of the campaign. He ran unmarked behind the defense to the far post and one-timed a free kick from Christian Segovia into the net.
The Argos got one back at 82:41, and like their first it was a rocket. This time, Adrian Gomez stepped up and blasted one home from about 25 yards out.
That ended the scoring, and the Geoducks remained unbeaten this season.
Great Falls enjoyed an 11-10 advantage in shots, but the Geoducks won the corner kick battle, 8-3, and scored on two of those corners. Both keepers were credited with one save.
Evergreen seniors honored prior to their final home game were Clark, Juan Oropeza, Charlie Kramer, Tom Kemennu, Kevin Day and Crisantos Chavez.
The Geoducks play their final four regular season games on the road, starting with a contest next Friday against College of Idaho in Caldwell.
