Gasman, Raiders roll against Multnomah

ASHLAND – Emma Gasman deposited 12 kills on 19 attacks with seven blocks, and the Southern Oregon volleyball team cruised against Multnomah in a 25-22, 25-11, 25-18 decision Saturday afternoon inside the friendly confines of Ashland Middle School.

The Raiders (12-9 overall, 9-5 Cascade Conference) completed a regular-season sweep of the Lions (8-13, 3-11) and a weekend sweep at home. They've won nine sets in a row since their three-match losing streak.

Courtney Macklin added 10 kills, Lauren McGowne had 33 assists and six digs, and Ashlyn Flynn (17 digs) and Kiley Barcroft (12 digs) patrolled the back row.

Multnomah got 12 kills on Maile Kam's 27 swings. The Lions attacked at a .118 average but watched the Raiders hit .267, totaling just one block to SOU's eight.

After taking the Raiders to five sets a month ago, the Lions challenged again early, tying up the first set at 22-22 with three consecutive points. Macklin and Taylor Ristvedt came through with consecutive kills for the Raiders, and Macklin and Ariana Sattler finished off the set with a block of Hannah Antal.

The Raiders jumped out to a 14-4 lead during a second set in which they never trailed, collectively hit .467 and held Multnomah to a clip of .038. In the final two sets combined, SOU recorded 27 kills compared to four attacking errors. The Lions had 18 kills and 13 errors in the same stretch.

Trailing the third set 10-5, Sattler served the Raiders to 10 straight points and they never looked back.

Sattler finished with five kills, six digs, two blocks and two service aces. Ristvedt had six kills and assisted two blocks.

The Raiders remained in fifth place, a half-game behind College of Idaho, going into Wednesday's 7 p.m. match at Oregon Tech.
