College Place, Wash. - Wolves Fall to the Eagles in Three Sets

The Wolves lost to Northwest University (10-4,7-2) Saturday.  The Eagles' attack proved to be too much for the Wolves, as they fell in three sets. The Wolves fought hard, however, against an Eagles team that is ranked 3rd in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, and coming off a win vs. Evergreen State College.

The Wolves played well early in the first set, jumping out to an early 3-1 lead after kills by Morgan Doyle and Lauren Barlow. Both teams traded punches throughout the set, the Eagles' 13 kills created separation as they finished the set strong, winning it by a score of 25-16.

The second set began similarly to the first as the Wolves built an early lead.  A massive block by Emily Allen and Maria Darling energized the crowd and put the Wolves ahead 5-4. The Eagles countered with a run of their own, taking the lead at 12-8, and forcing coach James Thorn to take a timeout.  The Wolves hung with the Eagles throughout the second set, a powerful kill by Ashlyn Ghazal brought them within 4 points at 14-18.  The Eagles again responded with a 5-0 run, winning the second set by a score of 25-15.

The third set was all Eagles, as they accumulated 15 kills and held the Wolves to their lowest point total of all three sets: 13.  Krista Schafer was very active tonight with 6 digs and a team leading 14 assists.  Carly Ursino led the team in digs with 12, and Maria Darling led the Wolves' attack with 7 kills.

The Wolves will look to rebound on Sunday against The Evergreen State College at 5PM
