EUGENE, Ore. – Warner Pacific pulled out a shutout on Friday afternoon, ending Northwest Christian University’s three-game winning streak with a 2-0 victory at Mike Kelly Field.
Northwest Christian University (8-5-2, 4-4-2 CCC) got the better of the shot count, holding a 13-8 advantage as well as a 4-3 edge in shots-on-goal. It was the Knights (4-8-2, 3-6-2) that were able to convert on their tries, scoring a pair of goals within the first 20 minutes of the contest.
In the fourth minute Junior Cordon intercepted an errant pass by the defensive line and shot in the strike from five-yards out.
Then at the 19:07 mark, Kingsley Armah got a breakaway to the goal after his defender was tripped up. Heading straight on to the goal, Armah slotted the ball to the right of the keeper for the insurance goal.
The Beacons had four players collect two shots apiece with Colin McManamon, Sergio Maldonado, Victor Irechukwu and Alex Abalan each owning a pair.
Erdal Barkay picked up the shutout victory for the Knights, making four saves.
Northwest Christian will be back in action on Saturday night, taking on Eastern Oregon University at 7:00 pm.
