Eagles claim 4-3 decision over Battlin' Bears
BILLINGS, Mont. - October 21, 2016 - The Rocky Mountain College women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to the visiting Northwest University Eagles, under the lights at Herb Klindt Field in Billings Friday.
The Eagles drew first blood as Winter Wirkkala scored in the 37:37 minute.
Rocky's Lauryn Gamache, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., answered the call with an unassisted goal with 28 seconds to play in the first half.
Gamache scored her second goal of the match at the 54:38 minute giving the Battlin' Bears a 2-1 advantage. Senior Brittany Greenback extended the score to 3-1 at the 59:01 minute mark, before the Eagles stormed back, scoring three unanswered goals: Jubilee Zevenbergen (61:33), Makenna Wheeler (64:46), and Zevenbergen (83:00).
The loss sent the Battlin' Bears to 7-7 overall and 4-4 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
The Battlin' Bears will close out their regular season schedule this Sunday, October 23, by hosting Evergreen State College on Wendy's Field at 2:30pm. It will be Senior Day, as six seniors - Lia Unterholzner, Brittany Greenback, Evelina Aberg, Alex Harvey, Ashley Flanigan, and Baylee Baker - will be honored prior to the contest.
