EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University volleyball team took set one on Saturday afternoon, but Northwest University rallied to take the next three for the Cascade Collegiate Conference win. NU, receiving votes in the latest NAIA coaches’ poll, won 15-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-19). The teams combined for 19 total blocks in the match, ten of which went to the victors.
Northwest (14-7, 11-5) was led by the double-double of Amanda Waterman, hitting .261 with 15 kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Hannah Hanson (pictured) hit .321 with nine kills and no errors, and led all players with seven blocks. Morgan Pilon spread the ball evenly with six players commanding at least 15 attempts. She finished with 43 assists and 12 digs.
The Beacons (9-13, 7-9 CCC) were led by
Taylor Burnett, posting 14 kills, 14 digs and four blocks. Kendall Bergsten added 11 kills and
Keri Schwarz posted a team-high six blocks. Five players were in double-figures for digs as NCU out-dug the Eagles, 86-82.
Sydney Rothenbush led the charge with 23,
Kayla Olson had 13 and
Haley Damian finished with ten.
Maci Beierle registered a double-double with 39 assists and 11 digs.
NCU returns to action next weekend, closing out the home schedule with a Friday night clash against Multnomah and a Saturday afternoon meeting with Warner Pacific. The Beacons and WPC are currently tied for the sixth and final playoff spot with four matches to play.
