SALEM, Ore. – Senior forward Randi Donahue had the flare for the dramatic once again for the Corban University women’s soccer team on Saturday night, as in the first overtime against Warner Pacific College, she blasted a 35-yard shot over the top of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net, lifting the Warriors to the thrilling 2-1 triumph over the Knights. The win jumps Corban back up into third place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings, and with two matches to play, the Warriors clinch a spot in the CCC Tournament.

“It was great to bounce back after Friday’s loss,” said Corban head women’s soccer coach Likius Hafeni. “We scored two great goals from two great players. We are looking forward to our last two games.”

Warner Pacific took the lead in the first stanza in the 18th minute on a fantastic strike from Sitera Allison off an assist from Kayla Currin. After receiving the pass on top of the box, about 25 yards from goal, Allison struck a dipping shot over the top of the Warrior goalkeeper, Sheyenne Brusven, and into the back of the net.

Corban equalized in the 31st minute, however, when Donahue played a cross into the box, and the ball eventually fell to junior forward Holly Martinez Moorman who tapped it in to make it 1-1.

The match stayed that way, despite the Warriors getting a number of great looks at goal. Warner Pacific’s goalkeeper, Kathy Lara, played well all evening long, making 11 saves.

Donahue eventually provided the heroics in the first overtime, however, blasting a 35-yard rocket over the top of Lara and into the goal, booking Corban’s ticket to the CCC Tournament.

The Warriors outshot the Knights, 26-13, and totaled a 10-6 corner-kick edge.

Corban (10-6, 6-3 CCC) returns to the pitch next Friday when it hosts Northwest University at 1 p.m. The match will once again be played at Sparks Field on the Willamette University campus.
