LA GRANDE, Ore. – The EOU men’s soccer team concluded its 2016 campaign with a strong finish, collecting 11 wins by defeating Warner Pacific, 4-0.

EOU (11-6-1, 6-6-1 CCC) bade farewell to eight seniors before the game Saturday afternoon. With no seniors last year in the program’s first year, these Mountaineers will be the first graduating class in program history
.
Four minutes into the first stanza, Wilson put EOU on the board first. Anguiano’s service from 18-yards out was denied by the keeper, and Wilson was there for the tap in.

In the 15th minute, junior midfielder Jesus Pelayo collected his third goal of the campaign, taking a pass from junior defender Carlos Peregrina for the finish. Three minutes later, sophomore midfielder Steven Beaudry fired a set piece 25 yards out into the box and found the head of sophomore forward Elvis Pavon for the tally. This gave EOU a 3-0 lead against Warner Pacific (4-10-2, 3-8-2 CCC) at halftime.

The Mounties held their ground in the second stanza and maintained majority of the possession. As time was winding down with a minute remaining, La Grande’s very own sophomore midfielder Gus Whittington registered his first career goal. Whittington dribbled down the right wing and struck a shot across his body that snuck past the keeper’s head. Freshman midfielder Dylan Kuntz was credited with the assist.
