Same Second-Half Formula Propels No. 17 EOU Women’s Hoops Past Simpson, 68-58

REDDING, Calif. – Four Mountaineers recorded double-figure scoring, and the No. 17 EOU women’s basketball team completed the weekend sweep over Simpson with a 68-58 victory on Sunday afternoon.
 
Junior guard Reece Bauer netted a team-best 11 points on 3-for-6 shooting, while senior guard Darian Gasseling, junior guard Maya Ah You, and junior sharpshooter Payton Parrish added 10 points apiece.
 
The Mountaineers drilled nine three’s on the day, and nine different players scored for the Blue and Gold.
 
After EOU (2-0) closed the first quarter with a 6-0 run to go up by seven (18-11), the Red Hawks (0-2) responded with a 25-14 burst to take a four-point (36-32) edge late in the second stanza. Following a free throw by Bauer, Gasseling found Parrish for the triple as the horn expired to tie the contest at 36 apiece.
 
The third quarter was tight early on before EOU flexed its versatility, as junior forwards Stormee Van Belle and Mariah Swanson drained three’s to spark a 16-4 run to extend the advantage to 12 (55-43) after the stanza.
 
The Mountaineers made four free throws in the fourth quarter, and EOU held on for a 10-point victory over the Red Hawks.
