ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon women's soccer team will have some work to do in the Cascade Conference tournament after Saturday's 1-0 loss to Rocky Mountain in the regular-season finale at Raider Stadium.

The Raiders (12-5-1 overall, 9-2 CCC) clinched a share of their first conference title with Friday's 1-0 win against Great Falls, but that's all they'll get for now. Carroll (8-0-3 CCC), the co-champion, gets the No. 1 seed in the conference tourney and the first of the CCC's two automatic bids to the national tournament. The Saints won the tiebreaker by virtue of their 1-0 overtime win against SOU last week.

SOU will take the No. 2 seed and play the No. 7 seed – either Rocky or Northwest Christian – in the quarterfinals of the CCC tourney on Nov. 4 in Springfield. The tournament champion – or, if Carroll wins it, the other finalist – will get the second automatic bid to the 32-team NAIA Championships.

Lauryn Gamache wielded the dagger in the 60th minute with a perfectly-placed 23-yard liner, after crossing over to her right foot and aiming from the left to right post, over the outstretched hands of SOU keeper Kylie Moltzen. It was her seventh goal of the season and gave the Bears (8-9, 5-6) a split on their weekend road trip.

The Raiders kept the pressure on, firing eight shots after the goal, but only one of them required a save. With seven seconds left they were awarded a free kick from about 30 yards deep but it was immediately booted out of the box.

Lia Unterholzner collected five total saves for the shutout.

The Raiders had been 8-0 at home this season and hadn't allowed a goal.
