Sadee Kallis scored in overtime to lift Corban to a 1-0 win over Evergreen.
SALEM, Ore. – Sadee Kallis scored in the fourth minute of overtime on senior night, lifting the Corban University women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over The Evergreen State College in the final match of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) regular season.
“It was a great win and a fun game to play, and I am glad the seniors finished with a win on Senior Night,” said Corban head coach Likius Hafeni. “I am proud of all the seniors and the team.”
For Kallis the goal couldn’t have come on a better evening, as she scored her first goal of the 2016 campaign in dramatic fashion in the overtime stanza following an evenly-matched contest prior to the goal.
In the first half, Corban started all 10 of its seniors which it had honored prior to the start of the match on Senior Night, and with both teams getting a feel for the game early on, neither side created too many good looks at goal.
The Warriors did have one good chance that almost found the back of the net when senior Madison Lash got in behind the defense and was in on goal, but she was unable to put her shot on frame, keeping the score level at 0-0. The Geoducks responded with a couple of chances of their own, but Warrior goalkeeper Sheyenne Brusven was up the challenge, keeping the score level going into the half at 0-0.
In the second stanza, Evergreen was shown a red card, and that ultimately resulted in Corban having the better of the play over the final 30 minutes.
Still after 90 minutes, however, Corban was unable to find the breakthrough, sending the contest to overtime. That is when Kallis struck, as after senior forward Randi Donahue got around the corner and whipped in a cross, Kallis one-timed her shot into the back of the net, winning the contest on the golden goal for the Warriors.
For the match, Corban outshot Evergreen, 20-9, while Evergreen held the corner-kick edge, 2-0.
Corban (12-6, 8-3 CCC) returns to action next Friday in the CCC Tournament Quarterfinal when it takes on Rocky Mountain College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Willamalane Sports Complex in Springfield, Ore.
