Butler's PK in 88th gives Raiders draw with Geoducks
SOU Sports Information
ASHLAND – For the second time in as many home games, the Southern Oregon men's soccer team came up big late Friday to come away with a 1-1 draw at Raider Stadium.
Trailing the Geoducks 1-0 in the 88th minute, SOU's
Mitchell Pinney dribbled through the box and was tripped. The Raiders were awarded a penalty kick, and
Brett Butler converted it for his first goal of the season, lining a shot inside the left post for the equalizer.
Evergreen had taken the lead in the 47th minute on its own penalty kick, which Tom Kemmenu finessed into the center of the goal with Raider keeper
Jonathan Morales leaning right.
The Raiders went to 6-1-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the Cascade Conference going into Saturday's 7 p.m. matchup against Northwest (Wash.). The Geoducks went to 4-0-3 and 3-0-3.
Each of SOU's last three home games have gone to double-overtime.
Morales, who made four of his nine saves after regulation, played a key part in SOU securing the tie. With three minutes left, he leapt to knock away a Miguel Viramontes free kick. Less than a minute later, he got a hand on Charlie Kramer's shot in the box, which then deflected off the post and safely in the control of a Raider defender.
Geoducks keeper Ben Stevenson collected five saves.
