LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Cascade Collegiate Conference sponsors a Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) made up of representatives from each member institution. The function of the committee is to; discuss and provide feedback on conference issues affecting student-athlete welfare, assist in educating student athletes about CCC/NAIA issues on their home campus, increase and improve student-athletes’ understanding of the CCC and NAIA Legislative process, promote student-athlete participation in department wide Champions of Character programs and provide a forum for addressing student-athlete concerns.

Cascade Conference (CC) - How did you choose WWU to continue your athletic and academic career?
Aaron Martinez (AM) - I came to WWU my freshman year in high school to visit and I immediately liked it here. The business program here is pretty good and the teacher help out and actually care about their students. I decided to play soccer here because both my brothers played soccer at this organization and I enjoy playing here.

CC- What are some of the demands of being a student athlete?
AM- Some of the demands of being a student athlete are being responsible in keeping up with class but with your sport at the same time. It’s tough at times managing your time wisely with everything going on around you.

CC- What are some of your best experiences so far, both academically and athletically at college?
AM- I would have to say that the best experiences for me have been all the road trips we have throughout the season because you get to know your team a lot better and interact with them in a whole different level.

CC- Who are some influential people in your life at WWU?
AM- There are two people that have influenced me the most while at WWU, one being my boss and the other being our soccer coach. They have just been there for me both on and off the field and I know I can talk to them about anything at any given time.

CC- When not competing or studying what do you do for fun?
AM- I really like playing video games like any typical guy, but I have recently started playing golf so if I have a few hours to kill and its warm enough I’ll go out and play a round of golf.

CC- What do you hope to accomplish as a member of the CCC-SAAC?
AM- As a member of the CCC-SAAC I would like to help the student athletes have a better experience and be proud of playing in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

CC- What do you see yourself doing after graduation?
AM- There are many option for me after I graduate but my main goal is to start my own business.
