Semifinals Begin Tonight for CCC Volleyball Championship
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The semifinals of the 2016 Cascade Collegiate Conference Volleyball Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, are set to begin tonight with top-seed Eastern Oregon hosting the final rounds of the tournament.
#2 Corban vs. #3 Northwest – La Grande, Ore. – 4 p.m.
Northwest advanced through the quarterfinal round with a 3-1 win over #6 Warner Pacific. The Eagles hit .219 in the match versus the Knights as Amanda Waterman led the way with 14 kills followed by Hannah Hanson with 10 kills while Morgan Pilon tallied 42 assists.
As the second seed in the tournament, Corban received a first-round bye through the quarterfinals. For the Warriors, Amber Parker recorded the most kills in the CCC with 393 kills while Madison McLain collected more assists than anyone, breaking the 1,000-mark with 1,060 assists.
Corban swept the regular season series against Northwest, winning both matches in three sets.
#1 Eastern Oregon vs. #4 College of Idaho – La Grande, Ore. – 7 p.m.
Fourth-seeded College of Idaho pushed through to the semifinal round after knocking out #5 Southern Oregon at home in a 3-1 win. Ashley Pagan tallied 15 kills while Randi Sturtz finished the match with 14 kills. C of I ended the regular season hitting .208 overall while collecting the most assists per set at 12.54.
Earning a regular season championship and an automatic qualifier to the NAIA National Tournament, first-seed Eastern Oregon earned the highest hitting percentage (.280) while holding their opponents to the lowest at .098. Eastern is led by the 2016 CCC Player of the Year in Rachelle Chamberlain who averages 10.76 assists per set.
College of Idaho was the only conference opponent to beat Eastern during the regular season, splitting the series one match each.
The winners of the semifinal matches will play for a CCC championship on Saturday.
The winner of the conference tournament will receive the CCC’s second automatic qualifier to nationals. In the event that Eastern is the tournament champion, the qualifier will go to the tournament runner up.
