Eastern Oregon Volleyball Named Team of the Week
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team has been named the “Team of the Week” for November 6-12, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
The regular season champions finally exorcised the post season demons that had haunted them the past three years as the Mountaineers claimed their first ever CCC tournament title Saturday night. In an epic battle with # 2 seeded Corban University that went five sets, fans in Quinn Coliseum were witness to what could be a sign of future clashes between two of the best teams in the league. EOU outlasted the Warriors 3-2 (20-25, 25-22, 24-26, 25-20, 15-13) after falling behind in the 5
th set 0-6 in what appeared to be a Corban runaway stanza. Junior Amanda Miller recorded a career high 20 kills and reigning CCC player of the year, senior Rachelle Chamberlain set the EOU single match assist record with 68.
In the semifinal match held on Friday night, Eastern dispatched The College of Idaho 3-1 (26-24, 25-20, 22-25, 25-16) to advance the finals.
Eastern (19-1 ccc, 28-2) will advance to the NAIA National Volleyball Championships that begin on November 19
th. Corban (17-3 ccc, 22-6) also advances as the league’s second automatic qualifier.
