Cascade Conference (CC) - How did you choose WPC to continue your athletic and academic career?
Regina Bell (RB) - I first was aware of it because of some friends that wrestle at Warner, and decided to visit the school. I was actually very reluctant to visit and attend Warner because I had already planned to attend another, more affordable school. Also, I had no desire to wrestle in college. However, after visiting the school, I fell in love with the wrestling program and saw that the MAT program would be perfect for me.
CC- What are some of the demands of being a student athlete?
RB- It can be a lot of work trying to find the energy to juggle school, work, and wrestling. I think the most demanding thing for me is making sure I can take care of my body. In order to wake up for 5:30 practices and still be able to function throughout the day, I think it’s important to get a lot of sleep. Paired with the demand of cutting weight for wrestling, it’s quite the task to take care of myself.
CC- What are some of your best experiences so far, both academically and athletically at college?
RB- I think the best experience for me was realizing how important my team members are to me. After practicing, competing, and spending so much times with a bunch of strangers, it was amazing to finally realize that we were (and are) teammates. Because of the bond with my team, I would say that my academic experience has been so much better because I have connections with different majors through my teammates.
CC- Who are some influential people in your life at WPC?
RB- One of women on my team (she was my practice partner last year) is one of the most hardworking and driven people I have met here at Warner. However, she is also kind and sweet; something that is not always present in female wrestlers. Her ability to work hard while simultaneously maintain humility and grace has influenced to try to do the same thing.
CC- When not competing or studying what do you do for fun?
RB- Well I find I don’t really have a lot of time, so when I do have a break I usually just try to rest and get all my laundry done! I end up spending a lot of time with my teammates doing just about nothing (which is wonderful).
CC- What do you hope to accomplish as a member of the CCC-SAAC?
RB- I think it will be a great opportunity to get to connects members of different teams. It’s easy for each team to only be familiar with their sport, but I think SAAC can help bridge the gaps.
CC- What do you see yourself doing after graduation?
RB- The goal is to get my Master’s in teaching here at Warner. I would like to teach middle-school and possibly coach middle-school wrestling. I am very excited to be working with students and to hopefully be able to coach them both academically and athletically.
