PORTLAND, Ore. – Earning their first win of the season in decisive fashion, the Multnomah University women's basketball team defeated NCAA DIII Pacific University 66-50 on Wednesday night in Jim Skagen Court.
The Lions shot 45 percent from the field, including a 5-of-11 mark from the 3-point line, while holding the Boxers to 29 percent shooting on the night.
Milan Woods and
Lacie Kamper were the offensive forces for MU, recording 13 points each. Following her was
Kayla Hyppolite with 11 points and
Miranda Schmillen who completed the double-double with 11 points and a team high 12 rebounds.
"This was a great team effort tonight. We've played a very tough pre-season schedule so far, and I'm proud of the way we were able to bounce back from a humbling game against George Fox," said head coach
Tim Bieri. "We had some great leadership from our upper-classmen and also got some very solid play from our younger girls as well."
MU never trailed as
Sadie Jenks opened up the scoring for the Lions, hitting a deep ball in the opening minute of play to give her team the lead. After a couple free throws by Schmillen, Jenks did it again as the Lions worked a 19-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
MU's largest lead of the night game just before the end of the third quarter as Hyppolite nailed a triple to give the Lions a 53-29 advantage.
Multnomah won the rebounding margin 44-33 and collected 30 points off the bench.
The Lions will take next week off before returning to action in an exhibition game with Eastern Washington on Nov. 27.
