LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Cascade Collegiate Conference sponsors a Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) made up of representatives from each member institution. The function of the committee is to; discuss and provide feedback on conference issues affecting student-athlete welfare, assist in educating student athletes about CCC/NAIA issues on their home campus, increase and improve student-athletes’ understanding of the CCC and NAIA Legislative process, promote student-athlete participation in department wide Champions of Character programs and provide a forum for addressing student-athlete concerns.

The CCC office caught up with Trever Cooley who is one of the committee representatives from Multnomah University and participates in basketball and track.

CC (Cascade Conference)- How did you choose MU to continue your athletic and academic career?
TC(Trever Cooley)- I loved the atmosphere at MU when I came on my visit to meet Coach Bickley. Everyone I met while visiting campus cared so much about me and that was really comforting. It’s been a great experience so far, everything I expected and more.

CC- What are some of the demands of being a student athlete?
TC- Time management and organization. You have so many things that you have to fit in to your schedule and get done. As a collegiate student athlete everything falls on you if you and no one else. Organizing your schedule is a must.

CC- What are some of your best experiences so far, both academically and athletically at college?
TC- My best experience academically has been going into the Global Studies program at MU. I was unsure what program I would get in when I came to MU because I plan to pursue law enforcement. A short time after beginning classes at MU a professor named Greg Burch mentioned that I should get into Global Studies. Global Studies will greatly benefit me in a law enforcement career.  Athletically there have been so many great moments. Last year was the first year in the CCC for MU, so winning our first CCC game was a great milestone for our basketball program here and something that I will always cherish.

CC- Who are some influential people in your life at MU?
TC- Everyone at MU had made an impact on my life at some point. I really value my coaches, professors, and friends. I hope that I can remain friends with everyone that I have met at Multnomah.

CC- When not competing or studying what do you do for fun?
TC- I enjoy hanging out with my family, watching sports, hunting and fishing with my Dad.

CC- What do you hope to accomplish as a member of the CCC-SAAC?
TC-  Would like to bring a voice from my campus back to other SAAC members and the commissioner of the CCC. There are many things that athletes have questions about that I know can be answered through SAAC meetings.

CC- What do you see yourself doing after graduation?
TC- I plan on going into law enforcement and would like to coach basketball.
