PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific opened up a huge lead in the first quarter, then held off a spirited comeback attempt from Pacific Union in a 75-69 win for the Knights today in Portland. It was the season home opener for WPC.
 
WPC jumped out to a 20-5 advantage after 10 minutes of play, and held a 19 point lead at halftime. The visiting Pioneers dressed only five players due to injuries, and shot only 25% (7 of 28) in the first half. The Knights on the other hand, scored at a 50% clip (18 of 36) and made four of eight tries from behind the arc.
 
The Knights held a comfortable 64-43 lead at the conclusion of the 3rd quarter and look to be cruising for a blowout win. Pacific Union made of game of it however, out-scoring the hosts 26-11 in the last period, but could not get closer than four points. Pacific Union made 19 free throws in the second half, and finished the game with a 24-4 advantage with points scored from the charity stripe.
 
Kyeli Hendrix led WP with 18 points on 7 of 15 shooting, nailing a trio of shots from the three point line. Bailey Allen added 15 points, while Destiny Isaac-Pettiford tossed in a season high 10 points.
 
PUC was paced by Alexis Lyers with 22 points and four assists.
