SOU Ranked No. 1 in Men’s Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 Postseason Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Southern Oregon claims the No. 1 ranking in the NAIA Men’s Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 Postseason Poll, the national office announced Wednesday. The Raiders won their second national championship at North Farm Cross Country Course in Elsah, Ill. on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Top 25 Highlights (historical information dates back to 1999):
• After earning its second national championship, Southern Oregon is the unanimous No. 1 team.
• Runner-up St. Francis (Ill.) comes in at No. 2. The Fighting Saints has earned the No. 2 ranking for four-straight editions.
• Three newcomers join this week’s installment – No. 17 Rio Grande (Ohio), No. 22 Aquinas (Mich.) and No. 24 Milligan (Tenn.).
• Rio Grande has not been ranked in the Top 25 since August 25, 2010, when the RedStorm was ranked No. 24.
• Aquinas is back in the Top 25 after being ranked in the final edition on Nov. 6.
• The last time Milligan was ranked was on Sept.16, 2015, when the Buffs were ranked No. 23.
• Sixteen of the 21 conferences/Association of Independent Institutions are represented in the Top 25.
• The Cascade Collegiate Conference leads the way with four teams represented in Top 25, followed by Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with three.
• Thirty-nine teams were ranked this season.
• Three teams have been ranked No. 1 – Southern Oregon (one week), St. Francis (two weeks) and British Columbia (four weeks).
• Oklahoma City (2014) and former NAIA-member Malone (Ohio) (2007 & 2008) are the only teams to go the entire season ranked No. 1
• Three schools have been ranked in the top 10 all season – Southern Oregon, St. Francis, British Columbia.
