C of I Drops Lady Yote Classic Opener to Rocky
CALDWELL, Idaho – A cold shooting afternoon hurt the College of Idaho, as the Lady Yotes dropped a 72-46 decision to Rocky Mountain College as part of Day 1 of the Best Western Caldwell Inn and Suites Lady Yote Classic in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Battlin' Bears (7-1) held C of I to just 29-percent shooting from the floor in the victory.
Mikayla Jones had 15 points and six steals for Rocky in the win, with Alecia Chamberlain scoring 11 and Keisha Engelhardt recording nine points and 12 rebounds.
C of I (0-5) trailed just 21-16 after the first quarter, but made just one field goal over the first eight minutes of the second period, as three-pointers from Engelhardt and Jayde LeFevre highlighted a 13-2 run that broke the game open. The Yotes got within 47-35 in the third quarter after a
Maddie Skaggs triple, but a Jones steal and basket to open the fourth quarter started a 7-0 RMC run that put the game out of reach.
Petra Lumpert was the lone Lady Yote in double figures, scoring 10 points with six rebounds, with
Jaycin Tini adding six points and six boards and
Kiara Skinner tallying six points and seven rebounds. Freshman
Lindy Westendorf had four points and five rebounds in just 15 minutes, with
Allison Law adding four points and two boards in five minutes of play.
Rocky had a commanding 42-20 edge in points in the paint and made 51-percent of their field goal attempts.
The Lady Yotes return to action tomorrow, hosting Montana Western at 5 p.m. Western opened tournament play today with a 60-47 win over Eastern Oregon.
