Southern Oregon University Men’s Basketball Named Team of the Week
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Southern Oregon University men’s basketball team has been named the “Team of the Week” for November 21-27, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
SOU claimed two wins over the weekend competing in the Menlo College Bud Presley Classic. On Friday the Raiders took down Westmont (Calif.) 72-66 to open the tournament. Westmont, an NAIA Div. 1 team was ranked No. 12 in the preseason poll. The importance of making your free throws was never more evident as SOU went 9 of 10 in the final 90 seconds of play to seal the win. Freshman post Jordan Hunt tallied a season-high 20 points with nine rebounds, three blocks and three steals.
Against Menlo, Ben DeSaulnier and Tristen Holmes combined for 26 second-half points to defeat the host Oaks 78-63. SOU was again stellar from the charity stripe making 21 of 26 attempts.
Southern ( 6-2, 0-0 CCC) will wrap up non-conference action this week with an exhibition game against Oregon State on Monday and return trip to California Dec. 2-3 to face No. 4 Biola and No. 17 Hope International.
