NU Comes from Behind to Hand BenMesa First Loss 11/5/2016 3:11:35 AM MESA, Ariz. – The Northwest University Eagles overcame a 14 point 4th quarter deficit for a come from behind 79-72 victory over Benedictine Mesa tonight in the Mesa CC gymnasium. Trailing 65-52 with 7:52 remaining in the game, the Eagles would go on 14-0 run to take the lead 66-65. BenU would battle back to have a chance to tie the game with 10 seconds to go, but a costly turnover would help preserve the victory for the Eagles as they would hand the Redhawks their first loss in five games. Northwest U (2-0) was led by Charmaine Bradford’s 22 points and 3 assists. Hannah Carlson added 21 points and 7 rebounds and Mariah Stacona finished with 14 points and 4 assists. NU shot 50 per cent for the game while their defense limited Benedictine to 34 per cent. NU did commit 30 turnovers for the contest. Emily Moore and Erica Vasquez each score 19 for Ben Mesa. Moore had 12 rebounds for a double-double. The Redhawks lost the battle of the rebounding with 37 boards to the Eagles 47. “It was a hard fought contest where a lot of things weren’t going right for u most of the game,” said Ken Crawford, NU head coach.
