CCC Women's Soccer Semifinals Recap
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Only two teams remain in the 2016 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Soccer Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, as top-seed Carroll College takes on fifth-seed Northwest University in the title game on Monday.
Carroll looks for their second straight CCC postseason title after defeating Rocky Mountain in penalty kicks 4-2 in the semifinals earlier today. The Saints totaled 14 shots while the Battlin’ Bears got off six shots but neither team could find the back of the net.
Rocky’s keeper, Lia Unterholzer, tallied four saves in goal while Carroll’s Jamie Carter stopped two attempts by the Bears.
In the shootout, Rocky Mountain took the early lead 1-0 after Carroll’s first shot landed off target. The Saints converted on their next four attempts to secure a spot in the championships.
Continuing to pull off the upset, #5 Northwest defeated #2 Southern Oregon 1-0 in their semifinal match. Rylee Rassier was the hero for the Eagles, finding the back of the net in the 18
th minute after Jubilee Zevenbergen sent a cross along the goal line.
Southern pressured Northwest throughout the match, launching 14 shots as NU keeper, Lauren Hellum, tallied three saves to keep her team ahead.
Since Carroll received the CCC’s first automatic qualifier to the NAIA National Tournament as the regular season champions, Northwest will earn the second automatic qualifier either as the tournament champion or the runner up.
The championship game is set for Monday, Nov. 7 at noon.
