CCC Women’s Soccer Semifinals Underway Tonight

LA GRANDE, Ore. –With the quarterfinal round of the 2016 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Soccer Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, completed, the semifinals are set to start tonight as top-seed Carroll takes on sixth-seed Rocky Mountain, and second-seed Southern Oregon faces Northwest as the fifth-seed.
 
Semifinal Game 1 - #1 Carroll vs. #6 Rocky Mountain – 5 p.m.
 
After tying 1-1 in regulation and two periods of overtime, Rocky Mountain pulled off the upset over third-seed Corban in penalty kicks, winning 8-7 to advance to the semifinal round. Lia Unterholzer had a stellar performance for Rocky, tallying 11 saves and stopping the final PK attempt to secure her team a win.
 
For Carroll, they also saw their quarterfinal game come to penalties, surviving a 0-0 tie and advancing 4-2 in PKs over eighth-seed College of Idaho. Carroll knocked in three of the first four penalty kicks before Talya Vaira clinched the victory with the final attempt.
 
During the regular season matchup for these team, the Saints walked away with a 4-0 win over the Battlin’ Bears.
 
Semifinal Game 2 - #2 Southern Oregon vs. #5 Northwest – 5 p.m.
 
Northwest built a comfortable 3-0 lead over Eastern Oregon midway through the second half of the quarterfinal game. NU’s Jubilee Zevenbergen recorded the first goal of the game in the 16th minute of play before assisting in the second goal of the game in the second half. Eastern scored two goals in the second half but couldn’t overcome the deficit.
 
Southern Oregon’s Megan McArthur proved why she was the 2016 Offensive Player of the Year, registering a late goal to give the Raiders a 1-0 win over seventh-seeded Northwest Christian. SOU goalie Kylie Moltzen tallied four saves against the Beacons to earn the clean sheet.
 
Southern recorded a 1-0 win at home over Northwest back in October of the regular season.
 
Both semifinal games kick off tonight at 5 p.m., with the winners playing for the CCC tournament championship on Monday, Nov. 7.
