NU Eagles Hold Off Embry Riddle for Victory
PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Northwest University overcame a halftime deficit and some cold shooting to defeat Embry Riddle (AZ) 61-56 tonight in a non-conference game in the ERAU Activity Center. NU managed just 30% shooting as a team tonight.
The Eagles from Embry Riddle led 12-7 at the end of the first quarter and took a 27-26 lead into the locker room at halftime. At the end of the third quarter, ERAU held on to a 43-39 lead going into the final quarter. Northwest U outscored Embry Riddle in the final quarter 22-13 to pull out the five point victory.
Junior guard Charmaine Bradford led the Eagles (3-0) for the second straight night with 18 points. Sophomore Miranda Langenhorst dropped in 15 points while grabbing 11 rebounds and Mariah Stacona contributed 11. After turning over the ball 30 times on Friday night, NU limited their TO’s to just 9 in tonight’s contest.
For Embry Riddle (2-3), Danae Ruiz led the team with 16 points while teammate Jenna Knudson scored 11 points. Melissa Pfeifer had a team high 10 rebounds as the Eagles dominated the backboards with a 54-37 rebounding margin including 18 offensive rebounds.
“It was a back and forth game tonight with neither team leading by more than three points the entire way,” said NU head coach, Ken Crawford. “We were able to pull out the win like last night in the last few minutes with some clutch shooting and timely defense. It’s been a great trip for us and a super learning experience. We’re looking forward to returning to Kirkland and playing at home next weekend.”
