Teams Battle for CCC Title in the Final Day of the Soccer Tournaments
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – It is the final day of the both the 2016 Cascade Collegiate Conference Soccer Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, as #1 Carroll takes on #5 Northwest for the women’s title and #2 Corban takes on #6 Great Falls on the men’s side.
Top-seed Carroll has had a long road to the championships with both their quarterfinal match against College of Idaho and their semifinal match against Rocky Mountain coming to penalty kicks. The Saints have already locked up an automatic qualifier to the NAIA National Tournament as the CCC regular season champions.
Northwest has had a tournament of upsets, knocking off #4 Eastern Oregon in a 3-2 quarterfinal win, followed by a 1-0 victory of second-seed Southern Oregon. With Carroll already having an automatic qualifier, the Eagles have punched their ticket to the nationals either as the tournament champion or the tournament runner up.
On the men’s side, Corban and Great Falls will battle it out for not only a CCC postseason title, but also a bid to the national tournament.
Corban defeated #7 Northwest in the quarterfinals before following that up with a 3-1 defeat of Carroll in the semifinals. Great Falls, the highest remaining seed in both tournaments, started the quarterfinals with a 2-0 win over Evergreen before defeating top-seeded Rocky Mountain 4-0.
The women’s game kicks off at noon followed by the men’s game at 3 p.m.
