Southern Oregon University Women’s Basketball Named Team of the Week
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Southern Oregon University women’s basketball team has been named the “Team of the Week” for December 5-11, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
Opening league play on the road in a quest to defend their 2015-16 title, the Raiders captured two victories over the weekend against Corban University and Northwest Christian University.
In the 69-60 win over Corban, reigning player of the week Autumn Durand lit up the stat sheet shooting 9-of-16 for 21 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. This was her third straight game with 20-plus points and fifth double-double in six outings.
Against the Beacons of NCU balance was the name of the game as four Raiders were in double digits and stingy defense held the hosts to a 36% night from the floor. In the 79-57 win Autumn Durand had 14 points, six rebounds and four steals, Majerle Reeves nailed four 3-pointers for 12 points, Demi Sahlinger had 10 points and five rebounds, and Toria Bradford chipped in 10 points and three steals.
Southern ((8-1, 2-0 CCC),owners of an eight game winning streak, will take on NCAA Div. II Western Oregon University on Monday night before returning to Ashland for their home openers against The Evergreen State College and Northwest University on Dec.17 and 18.
