Knights Cruise Past Vancouver Island
PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific had little trouble with Vancouver Island tonight, thumping the visitors from Canada 102-52 inside C.C. Perry Gym.
The Knight defense was especially stingy, holding the Mariners to 28 percent shooting including a dismal 2 of 27 effort from the three point line. Open shots for VIU were hard to find, and the clear looks at the rim were not falling.
Meanwhile, WPC scorched the nets at a 56 percent clip due in part to
De'Corrius Sampson-Young's 7 of 8 performance from the field. The senior led the team with 18 points including four makes from distance.
Collin Malcolm added 15 points and 10 rebounds – his 4th double-double in a row. Warner Pacific also saw the debuts of
Zack Gonzales (17 points) and
Josh Thomas (8 points), two key players who were recently cleared to participate.
VIU was led by Jalen Schlegel with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
