KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon - Oregon Tech Head Softball Coach Greg Stewart has been named Interim Director of Athletics as announced today by Interim Oregon Tech President Dr. Jay Kenton and incoming President Dr. Nagi Naganathan. Stewart will continue his duties as head softball coach at Oregon Tech.
“This was a unanimous decision by both Dr. Naganathan and myself,” said Kenton. “We have great confidence that Greg is the right person to lead the department for the near term. His character is unquestioned as is his track record for success.”
"Greg, as a longtime coach in the CCC is well known and highly regarded around the league," stated commissioner Rob Cashell. “He has great passion for intercollegiate athletics and the student athlete experience and I look forward to working with him as he takes on the additional duties of Interim Director of Athletics at Oregon Tech."
Stewart, a native of Texas, grew up in the Houston area before attending Sterling College (NAIA) in Sterling, Kansas where he received a degree in accounting while playing four years of baseball.
Upon graduation he assisted in football and baseball at Sterling for one year before returning to Houston to work in sales for Clinton Industries.
Greg returned to Sterling College in 1995 as an assistant coach in football and baseball and was promoted to the head baseball job in the fall of 1997. In his first year, Sterling went from last to second and won the conference championship the following year.
Following six years at Sterling, Stewart took on the task of rebuilding the baseball program at Bluefield, Virginia. The NAIA Ramblin’ Rams had finished at the bottom of the AAC Conference in 2001. In his second year, Stewart guided the Rams to their first winning season in five years and a fifth place finish in the 11-member conference.
Stewart joined the Oregon Tech family in 2005 as Head Softball Coach. Since taking over, his teams have gone 416-183-2 with a win percentage of .694.
