Wolves Struggle to Keep up with the Beacons Offense 12/30/2016 6:22:07 PM Paul Starkebaum, Sports Information Director College Place, Wash. – The Wolves hosted the Beacons tonight in their first Cascade Conference game after Christmas break. Walla Walla (1-12, 0-5) could not keep up with the hot shooting of Northwest Christian University (10-3, 4-2) as the Wolves lost 61 to 95 to the Beacons. By the Numbers The Wolves out rebounded the Beacons 35-34 for the game Walla Walla shot 20-23 from the free throw line Zayne Browning lead the Wolves in scoring with 11 points Dylan Browning was the Wolves leading rebounding with 7 Isaiah Taylor and Alex Calloway each had a pair of three-point field goals for the Wolves Brendyn Taylor and Jack Hackman each had 18 points to lead the Beacons in scoring Jay Mayernik lead all players in rebounds with 14 total How it Happened The Beacons started the game on a mission, jumping out to a 21 to 4 lead. Northwest Christian had 9 three-point field goals in the first half. The Beacons got the ball in the post, and located their shooters on the perimeter. Whenever Walla Walla scored, Northwest Christian seemed to have an answer on their offensive end. Stuart Tonack scored off a post move and Chad Torkelson hit back-to-back free throws late in the first half as the Wolves were looking for a spark. The Beacons answered with a lay-up from Bradley Laucbacher and a three-pointer from Jack Hackman to push the lead to 18-50 in favor of the Beacons. In the second half the Wolves scored 15 more points than they had in the first half, but Northwest Christian still outscored them 38 to 43. With just under a minute left to play Brock Rice drove down for a lay-up and scored the final basket of the game, giving the Beacons a 95-61 lead over the Wolves.
