Beacons Shoot Passed Wolves 12/30/2016 5:26:00 PM Paul Starkebaum, Sports Information Director College Place, Wash. – Walla Walla (2-9, 0-5) hosted Northwest Christian University (7-6, 4-2) in their first game back after Christmas break. The Wolves let the first and third quarter get away from them as they lost to the Beacons 63-87. By the Numbers The Wolves shot 53.8% from the three-point line Lexi Ehlers lead the Wolves in scoring with 18 points Emily Downs had her first double-double of the season with 14 points 11 rebounds Alyssa Blankenship had a game high 7 assists Niki Duncan lead Northwest Christian in scoring with 16 points The Beacons out rebounded the Wolves 47 to 36 overall How it Happened The Beacons started out on a 13-2 run to open the game. From there, things calmed down for the Wolves but they were not able to recover as the Northwest Christian took a 20-9 lead into the second quarter. In the second, Walla Walla was much more productive, Emily Downs and Alyssa Blankenship both hit threes as part of a 7-2 run for the Wolves. Niki Duncan hit a jumper just before the half to put the Beacons up 37-23 heading into halftime. The Beacons used the third quarter to widen the lead over the Wolves. While Walla Walla did score 21 points in the quarter, the Beacons still outscored them by 16. The Wolves played much tighter in the fourth, but it was not enough to close the gap. The Beacons had very balanced scoring for the game, with three players in double figures, and 12 players scored in total for them. Lexis Elhers hit a lay-up with 14 seconds left in the game for the final basket for Walla Walla, as they would go on to lose 63-87.
