Eastern Oregon Breaks Away in Third Quarter
The Evergreen State College stayed with Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball co-leader Eastern Oregon for a half Saturday night before the Mountaineers used a strong third quarter to run away with a 70-38 victory inside Costantino Recreation Center.
Eastern Oregon (13-2 overall, 6-0 conference) held a 32-24 lead over the scrappy Geoducks coming out of the locker room at the half, but hit 5-for-10 from beyond the three-point line as part of a 26-6 surge in the third period. At that point, the game was out of reach for the hosts.
Corina Tacardon led Evergreen with 14 points, including a pair of three-point baskets, and she also picked up three steals. Gabi Fenumiai and Chloee Hunt both pulled down eight rebounds and Zaria Jones dished out four assists for the Geoducks, who shot just 27 percent from the field (15-for-55). They also turned the ball over 23 times leading to 26 EOU points.
The Mountaineers got 15 points from Jessica Sexson, who was perfect on all six of her field goal attempts. Ashley Knight added 10 points and a team highs of five rebounds and three steals for Eastern Oregon, which had 13 different players see actio in this game. Payton Parrish led her team with five assists.
Evergreen returns to action at 6 p.m. next Tuesday, facing non-conference opponent Linfield College at Costantino Recreation Center.
