KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has revealed the 2016 NAIA Women’s Soccer All-America teams, the national office announced Tuesday. The NAIA All-America Committee, which consists of the NAIA-Women’s Soccer Coaches Association officers and seven additional women’s soccer coaches, select the three 11-member teams and the honorable mention teams.
Northwestern Ohio junior midfielder Klara Cahynova was named the 2016 NAIA Women’s Soccer National Player of the Year. The Zlin, Czech Republic, native is the first Racer to win this award since its inception in 1997. Cahynova was named to the 2016 NAIA Championship All-Tournament Team. Cahynova is a three-time All-American and was a second team member in 2014 as a freshman, received first team honors as a sophomore and junior.
Overall, three freshman landed on the first, second or third team – Annika Koemm of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (second team), Evdokia Popadinova of Northwestern Ohio (third team) and Riko Sagara of Martin Methodist (Tenn.) (third team).
Kaylin Swart earns Menlo’s (Calif.) first ever Women’s Soccer All-America award in school history.
Overall, 14 teams have players represented on one of the teams. National Champion Northwestern Ohio and national runner-up Spring Arbor (Mich.) lead all teams with five players on the list.
The 2016 Select Sport America-NAIA Women’s Soccer National Coach of the Year will be announced at the National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America (NSCAA) National Convention held in Los Angeles, Calif., on Jan 11-15.
