Big Day for Ferguson and Perez at UW Indoor Meet 2/14/2016 8:21:23 PM SEATTLE, Wash. – A pair of NU Eagle track & field team members set NAIA qualifying times at the University of Washington Open Meet today to highlight the day’s competition. Jonathan Ferguson and Michelle Perez both broke school records in setting their qualifying marks. The first qualifying mark of the day came from Jonathan Ferguson as he ran a 4:15.66 in the indoor mile--4th best in the NAIA this season. Ferguson placed 14th out of 67 runners. He was edged out for 13th by .04 seconds and 12th by .63 seconds. Dean Willis ran the distance in 4:35.53 and Rafael Lara came in at 4:42.86. Michelle Perez then finished first in her heat in the long jump event meeting the NAIA “B” standard for the event with a leap of 5.40m (17'8.75"). Her jump ties her for the 20th best in the NAIA this season and breaks her own school record of 5.28m (17’4.00”) set in 2015. CarrieAnne Steele came through with a jump of 4.99m (16’4.50”), good enough for 15th place in the field of 45 entrants. Jonathan Ferguson continued his impressive indoor season hitting another NAIA automatic qualifying mark in the men's 3000m, breaking the NU school record. Jonathan placed 24th out of 71 runners. He ran an 8:35.19 bettering Seth Bridges' mark of 8:42.14 and Phil Olson's record of 8:37.93 established in 2003. Kyle Cole ran the 3k in 9:02.46. Ferguson's time is No. 3 in the NAIA this season. CarrieAnne Steele also placed 15th in the women’s triple jump with a distance of 10.55m (34’7.50”) in the 32 person field. Brian Guisinger took 12th place in the men’s 1000m run crossing the finish line at 2:36.45. In the women’s shot put, Chantal Grothen was 27th with a throw of 9.54m (31’3.75”) and Janelle Kono cleared a height of 2.65m (8’8.00”) in the women’s pole vault. Sarah Estabrook was 45th in the women’s 3000m with her time of 10:45.21.
