Late Run Lifts Mountaineers Over Wolves

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – The Walla Walla University Wolves (4-23, 2-17) lose to the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers (15-15, 10-10) 72-55 at home on Windemuth Court in College Place.
 
The first period was a hard fought battle by both teams. Walla Walla came out aggressive on offense and neither team let up on defense. The Wolves trailed for the majority of the first period but their energy kept them in it and they would eventually take a 21-20 lead over Eastern Oregon on a Ryan Spady layup with around four minutes left in the half. However, the Mountaineers would regain control late in the first half and go into halftime up 34-27.
 
Ryan Spady and Ethan Osias carried the scoring load for the Wolves in the first half with a well-earned 10 and 9 points. While Eastern Oregon’s balanced scoring between Tate De Laveaga, Travis Meeker, and Case Rada led the way for the Mountaineers.
 
In the second half, Walla Walla University played very well and did everything they could to cut down Eastern Oregon’s lead. The Mountaineers built up a 14 point lead before the Wolves stormed back and cut the lead down to just six points. The Mountaineers answered and managed to get their lead back up to thirteen points, but Walla Walla wouldn’t back down and went on a 10 to 3 run to get within four points.
 
The Wolves would lose the momentum in the final minutes and Travis Meeker closed the game out for the Mountaineers with three fast break dunks. Eastern Oregon would win this game 72-55 over Walla Walla University.
 
Travis Meeker of Eastern Oregon led all scorers with a game high 18 points. Tate De Laveaga, Caulin Bakalarski and Case Rada all scored in double figures, 15, 15 and 10 respectively. Trell Washington contributed 10 rebounds.
 
Walla Walla University’s Ryan Spady had a double double with 16 points and a game high 13 rebounds. Ethan Osias also played very well, scoring 13 points and adding 6 rebounds. Michael Isotalo of the Wolves added 8 points.
