AUSTIN, Tex. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the College Division 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-America® basketball teams on Monday, and Corban University women's basketball senior guard Julia Young (Snohomish, Wash.) garnered Second-Team Academic All-America® plaudits for the Warriors. Young is the only member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) to earn either First or Second-Team honors in 2015-16.
For Young, it is her first-ever CoSIDA Academic All-America® award.
The College Division CoSIDA Academic All-America® women's basketball teams include 10 student-athletes from the NAIA, Canadian, and two-year institutions. The cumulative GPA for this year's first and second teams were 3.86. In order to garner CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must boast excellence both on and off the court.
Young completed a career-best senior season on the court with Corban during the 2015-16 campaign, averaging a career-best 12.5 points per game to go with 5.3 rebounds per game. She also dished out 42 total assists on the year and nabbed 28 total steals. One of her biggest attributes she brought to the table was her free-throw shooting ability, as she set a new program record by shooting at an 89.7% clip from the charity stripe, ranking second overall in the NAIA Women's Basketball Division II during the year. Midway through the 2015-16 stanza, she joined Corban's 1000-Point Club, cementing her legacy with the Warriors.
Off the court, Young boasted a 4.00 GPA as a Business major and has earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition and CCC All-Academic honors for the Warriors. Additionally, she garnered CoSIDA Academic All-District plaudits earlier this month.
